There are two forms of theft, which are:
•Petty theft - Petty theft is a theft in which the monetary cost of the
stolen item(s) is under $400. This type of theft typically results in a
misdemeanor charge and the punishment may include a jail term and
monetary fine.
•Grand theft - Grand theft is a theft in which the monetary cost of the
stolen item(s) amounts to more than $400. Depending upon the particulars
of the crime, grand theft may be a misdemeanor or felony charge, and
result in a jail or prison term.
Burglary and theft are serious charges. The range of potential punishments
for individuals accused of burglary and theft can vary greatly, depending
on the defenses argued by the defense attorney.
